Tim Whiston asked:
Basic Web design is easy to learn and you will always get the best results using real code. WYSIWYG “wizard” software that promises to do all the work for you typically causes more problems than it solves.
There are numerous software applications that allow you to drag, drop, point, and click your way to a Web template without ever typing the first line of code. These tools are often called WYSIWYG, meaning What You See Is What You Get. Most such devices are junk and should be avoided at all cost.
Due to the heavily promoted simplicity of WYSIWYG tools, many people use them for their basic Web design needs. But the bottom line is these tools limit your flexibility, create sloppy code, and in many cases simply do not work the way you want them to.
Learning the basics of Web design is easier than you might think. And in the long run you’ll save time and money, plus end up with a much better site, when you create your own code in lieu of using a WYSIWYG.
Let’s look more closely at the primary drawbacks of this type of software.
Limited Flexibility
No matter how slick, expensive, and high-tech a WYSIWYG editor, it’s not as robust and expansive as the human mind. There’s simply no way one of these utilities can be programmed for every possible parameter.
And frankly in most cases point and click Website builders are seriously flawed in terms of what they allow you to do.
As long as you stick with the basics of putting a table here, dropping an image there, and so forth you’ll be fine. But when you decide you want to align a block of text outside and to the right of an existing table, suddenly the software stops responding and you are unable to make the seemingly simple change you want.
WYSIWYG software is not intuitive in many scenarios. And there are a variety of design tactics and format changes you simply cannot do without going directly into the raw code.
Sloppy Code
Neat, properly formatted HTML (and other code) is critical for the success of your site. And it’s totally impossible to duplicate this level of quality when using a WYSIWYG.
When your HTML code is entered incorrectly your site obviously will not display properly. WYSIWYG software generally enters the basic structure correctly, but numerous small errors appear throughout a document created with these tools, and this will cause your pages to look different from one browser to another.
Also, the structure of your code is an important part of onsite search engine optimization. The kind of jumbled slop produced by a WYSIWYG tool can actually harm your search engine rankings, whereas proper hand coding can greatly enhance your position within the results listings.
Just Won’t do What You Want
Even at the level of basic Web design there are times when the developer wants to do something a little outside of the ordinary. And few things are more frustrating in a Website development scenario than wanting to create a specific effect and not being able to do so.
When using WYSIWYG technology you will often discover there is simply no way to create the format or effect you’d like to see on the screen in front of you. The “wizard” must adhere strictly to the rules it was programmed with, and even if the change you want to make is very minor, it just isn’t possible if the WYSIWYG doesn’t understand how to do it.
On the other hand, once you have even a preliminary grasp of basic Web design code, you’ll be able to make any changes you like in a matter of seconds. There are very few limitations when handling raw code, whereas a WYSIWYG will allow you to perform only a pre-determined range of commands.
With the right educational material, the average Internet user can become proficient in the art of basic Web design in 30 days or less. With only a small amount of practice you’ll be cranking out Web pages that are ten times better than those produced by the most expensive WYSIWYG on the market.

Jack Harper asked:
For the humble newbie, coming face to face with terms like HTML, Coding, Files and FTP can be enough to make you go cross eyed with confusion.
You get this great idea for a niche website, only to find yourself slumping heavily in your chair when you remember, you don’t actually have any design skills.
Does that matter?
Will that throw a spanner in the works?
I don’t think so….Not in the year 2007….Not now that somebody has come up with “Drop and drag”.
Quick!!..someone pin a medal on the chest of that Drop and drag man…or woman?…sorry.
Website Builders…you have to love them, they have the ability to make us all look like pro’s and lift us up to the next level.. Regardless of our computer skill level or design knowledge.
So what are the best Website builders and why should we use them?
Well, at the end of a very long day in front of your computer, the choice is yours.
You could spend $300 to get someone else to do your website for you, but then every time you want to make a change you need to get in touch with your webmaster and pay him to make the alterations.
But if you use a Website builder, you can make changes to your website anytime you please….for free.
As far as the best Website builders go i can tell you from experience that programs like Web page maker, Site spinner and ezypage are all good, easy to use and create nice looking sites, but they don’t have the “drop and drag” function that i love so much.
For $169 you can purchase a program called “Web studio 4″. Unlike the others, it at least has Spell checker.
With just a few mouse clicks you can add images, streaming video, audio clips and flash with a very impressive little product like Web Easy Professional….and the good news…yes..both these programs allow you to Drop and drag your way to Website domination.
But if you’re looking for real bang for your buck….i believe the new kid on the block “Site Rubix” is worth the wait.
Due for launch October 9th,2007, Site Rubix will save you both time and money…promising high quality sites with half the effort.
I’m in love already.
If you need to spend more time doing the things you love and less time fiddling around with HTML programs, you need to check this little gem out.
Here are a few key features & benefits:
-Build a professional looking website in less than 5 minutes
-Drag & Drop your site to make it look how you want it
-Say Goodbye Photoshop, Snagit, and other screenshot programs. Site Rubix gives you the power to instantly grab a screenshot of any website with the click of a button in less than a second, add it to your media page, and use the screenshot over and over again!
The list is really quite long….So Do yourself a favour, and take a look for yourself… It has been created by Kyle and Carson from Wealthy Affiliate so you know it’s going to be great quality and most of all….well priced.

James Schramko asked:
Many different things are involved in creating a great website.
Importantly, you need an intuitive navigation system on your side. As well, you need to have an appealing layout that directs people to the information that they are looking for and that is eye-catching. Then, you need to manage all of the images and graphics you use, and to make sure all of the links on your pages work properly - obviously, you need to do a lot of things.
This is especially true if you are running a website that has a built in online store. If that is the case, then you’ll need to handle all of the order forms to make sure that customer information is properly submitted, you’ll need to make sure that you have reliable technology in place to accept your customer’s payments, and you’ll need to protect your customer’s security. How do you do all of this? Well, you use website building software that includes a comprehensive suite of wizards.
What is a Wizard?
The term ‘wizard’ refers to a software tool that has been designed to simplified complicated tasks. Basically, you are confronted with a series of dialogue boxes that ask you certain things. For example, if you were making an order form for your website store, one of the questions would be, “What names do you want for each field of the form?” You’d type in first name, last name, address, etc. and the wizard will then create the form you need, automatically.
The idea of wizards is by no means new and has been around for many years, but what makes the wizards of the better website building software impressive is the wide variety of things they can create. If you want to include a short video on your website, there’s a wizard on hand that will have it loaded in no time. Same goes for audio, RSS feeds, multiple page creation, optimization for mobile devices, and many other features. Whatever feature that you want to implement on your website, your software should be equipped do it easily.
By using all of these wizards, you can take your website from group of average looking web pages and turn it into a highly optimized and feature rich group of content. Also, these wizards can be applied to your template pages in addition to each individual page. Functionality such as this will enable you to imlement advanced features to your chosen templates that will be reflected on each individual page.

Carolyn Clayton asked:
Having a website these days is as common as having a car. Most companies have one as do everyday people. Many people use website to showcase pictures of their hobby or family and send the web address to distant relatives. For those people you can find sites that offer a free domain (http://www.name.com) and hosting (space on a server) and even the pages are already built so it’s just a case of uploading images and text, perfect!
Having a website is quite inexpensive if you use free tools to create one. Many domain name and web hosting companies offer sites builders free when you buy a domain and hosting from them. This is great news for the majority of people as building websites can be tricky and not everyone has the skills. Many people use word or publisher but have trouble publishing it to the domain, and when they do finally manage it the pages take for ever to download and some of the links don’t work. Very frustrating! The best way to build a website is by either writing it in HTML or by using professional web building software such as Dreamweaver. But not everyone has these skills and even if you do manage to build a site you might still struggle getting it online.
You could dig deep into your pocket and find a web design company to build a site for you but this can be costly. If you’re a new start up business you might no have the financial resource available, so this is when using a site builder is the best alternative. Most site builders are very easy to use; they have to be as they are targeting people without any programming knowledge. Most site builders come with hundreds of free templates you can find the right look and feel for you website. They also come with a library of images so you can find the right images needed to show case your company.
Some site builders allow you to create professional looking websites within minutes. They have wizards that take you through the whole process, from building your template to actually publishing online. As long as you get the site builder and domain registration and hosting from the same company you shouldn’t have any trouble. If your still worried make sure the company has a valid phone number so if you get stuck there is customer support at the end of a phone.
Once you have your website live you now want to get it viewed. If your type your domain name into Google or any other search engine and it returns the following:
No standard web pages containing all your search terms were found.
Your search - http://www.name.com - did not match any documents.
Suggestions:
Make sure all words are spelled correctly.
Try different keywords.
Try more general keywords
This means your website is not listed in the search engines index, meaning the search engine doesn’t know it exists. For a search engine to list your site it has to know about it. This is where search engine submission comes into play. There are many companies offering to submit your site to the search engines for a fee. Some charge over the top for this and people are getting ripped off all the time. So either find a free search engine submission of submit it yourself.
So how to you submit a site to a search engine? Easy! All you have to do is put a hyperlink to your site on a site that is already indexed. Another way is to write an article (bit of free promotion going on here too) and at the bottom of the article create a link to your site. Publish the article to a few article directories (most are free) and the search engine spiders that crawl websites looking for new pages will soon pick up the hyperlink to your new site, go to your site and index all the pages it can find from there. Voila!

Jhoana Cooper asked:
Websites have become critical to the success of companies. A solid online presence can help companies to boost their profitability and marketing potential. Because website building now has become too common, you need not be a computer whiz in order to create one. All you have to do is to use a website builder that has the capability to create interactive sites even if you have scant technical knowledge. Latest web builders can also help you to create interactive map and fully functioning flash websites.
With lots of web building applications available today, it would be difficult to choose a website builder that will be suitable for your needs. The first thing you should consider when choosing a website builder is its ease of use and friendly interface. A good website builder needs to have a user friendly interface and functionalities. Because you are probably just starting to experiment with website building, ease of use is very critical. The tools and utilities of the web builder should be intuitively positioned so you can find them easily. It should also have a work area where you can simply click buttons to create pages, link pages and sites, and create graphics. If your website building application has friendly interface, you can easily create a website in minutes.
An excellent website building application should also have the capability to create flash based website with no coding requirements. Flash websites are highly interactive, visually appealing, and can attract more web visitors. Flash programming however is very complex and time consuming. Your website builder therefore should be able to create flash sites in just a few clicks. It should have a ready What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get (WYSIWYG) editor where you can simply patch or drag and drop different elements and plug-ins of a flash website. If your website building application has this capability, then you are on your way to creating the best interactive website on the Internet.
Your flash website should also have an interactive map so that customers can easily find your place of business. Flash map creation however can be very difficult because you need to specifically program grids and coordinates and create images and map icons. If you do not have the time to do all these, you should use an application that will allow you to create an interactive map without programming any codes. Just like your web builder, an interactive map creator must be easy to use, automated, and can be integrated with your flash site builder. Such capabilities will enable you to build websites that have fully functional interactive flash maps. Your website therefore will have greater chances of becoming successful and productive.
One of the most important features professional software should offer is related to the type of images imported. By adding either JPG or PNG images to the program, one can easily convert them into interactive image maps. As it was already mentioned, clickable dots, lines and popup info boxes can be easily introduced.
Website building and map creation need not be too complicated. All you need is a good flash website builder and an excellent flash map creator that can produce interactive flash based maps. Once you have these tools, you can create a professionally designed corporate website to attract more customers for your business and strengthen your company’s position in the online and traditional market.
